The event featured the launch of the latest RLS Palestine & Jordan publications.
The first, Palestine Insights: Critical Interventions, edited by Dr. Karin A. Gerster and Mahmoud Muna, explores Palestine as a political and intellectual terrain, examining land and geography, political economy, law and governance, society, culture, and artistic practice as interlinked sites of power and struggle.
The second publication, Gaza: Extract of Misery by Palestinian writer Ali Abu Yaseen from Gaza, is a collection of stories written during Israel’s genocide on Gaza. Through these texts, Ali preserves lived experiences as testimony to the unprecedented horror Palestinians in Gaza have endured.
Authors from both publications read selected texts during the event, including Dr. Nasser Abdelkarim, Bayan Haddad, Dr. Nour Bader, Carine Metz Abu Hmeid, Mahmoud Muna, Mai Kaloti, and Raya Ziada. Ali Abu Yaseen joined us via Zoom from Gaza.
The evening concluded with farewell remarks by Dr. Karin Gerster as her tenure as Director comes to an end. She reflected on the hardships Palestine has faced in recent years and the ongoing political challenges ahead, calling for greater international accountability and an end to the continued flow of arms that cost Palestinian lives.
