Year after year, Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank have grown increasingly severe. Following October 2023, while world attention on the war on Gaza, settlers took advantage of that to escalate their assaults in the West Bank.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 2024 marked the highest level of settler violence in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since records began two decades ago. Between October 7, 2023, and December 31, 2024, OCHA documented 1,860 settler attacks, which forced over 300 Palestinian families (1,762 people, including 856 children) to flee their homes.
The data also reveals that violent settler incidents doubled from an average of two per day in 2022 to four per day in 2024. Despite this surge, accountability remains rare: an Israeli human rights group found that 94% of police investigations into settler violence (2005-2024) ended without indictments.
In 2024 ruling, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared that Israel’s occupation and settlement policies violate international law, constituting de facto annexation. The court ordered Israel to end its illegal occupation, cease settlement expansion, withdraw settlers, and provide reparations for decades of systematic discrimination.
