Since Israel violated the ceasefire agreement on 18 March 2025, it has imposed a total blockade on aid entering Gaza, which was already scarce, as a collective punishment measure, in breach of international law.
International organizations, including the UN, have been sounding the alarm about the catastrophic situation in Gaza following Israel’s renewed attacks on the people in Gaza.
Israel only began allowing limited aid entry in May, following international pressure. However, it altered the distribution mechanisms, which was previously managed by international organizations like UNRWA and the World Food Program (WFP), by restricting distribution only to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a newly established organization by the U.S . with Israel’s support in February 2025 and operational since late May.
The GHF now controls all aid distribution.
Leading International Aid and Human Rights Organizations condemned the GHF plan, describing it as a “politicized sham” and a “blueprint for ethnic cleansing.”
Since the GHF started operating, the Israeli army killed more than 400 Palestinians while seeking aid from GHF aid sites.
Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Thameen Al-Kheetan, called on Israel to stop shooting at people trying to get food, allow full humanitarian access to Gaza in compliance with international law, and end restrictions on UN and aid organizations.
A recent report by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, based on interviews with Israeli soldiers serving at aid distribution sites, revealed that they were ordered to deliberately shoot at aid seekers.
Riad Othman of medico international recently spoke with Senior Advisor from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, Dr. Katja Herman, about the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and the failures of the international community. Link in bio.
