The region of Masafer Yatta, located south of Hebron city, is home to around 2,000 Palestinians spread across several small communities. It fell under occupation in 1967 when Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem.
In the 1980s, Israel had declared Masafer Yatta as a “Firing Zone 918” used for military training, which meant no civil presence would be allowed. Since then, this area has been under the constant threat of forcible displacement.
Masafer Yatta has long been targeted for Israeli settlement expansion, with Palestinian families facing continuous threats to their existence.
