As we commemorate International Women’s Day today, let us turn our attention to Palestinian women. Since October 7, over 9,000 Gazan women have been killed, a figure that likely underestimates the true death toll due to the many missing individuals who are missing under the rubble. This dire situation disproportionately affects women, who find themselves denied basic necessities such as food, water, and menstrual sanitation. The plight of women in Gaza is exacerbated by the harsh reality of giving birth amidst the ongoing bombings, often without the luxury of anesthesia. Since October 7, over 240 women were arrested in the occupied West Bank. According to a recent UN report, Palestinian women and girls in Israeli detention have been subjected to multiple forms of sexual assault (see UN report published February, 20. 2024). The daily struggles of Palestinian women are a stark reminder of the urgent need for a ceasefire and putting an end to the Israeli occupation.
